Uzair Cassiem – A great South African ambassador
Uzair Cassiem looked set to play a bigger role for the Springboks but after falling out of favor while at the Cheetahs, the loose forward made a move overseas and became an instant hit in Wales where he spent 2018-2021 with the Scarlets becoming a cult hero in the region.
Ahead of this season he made the move to France where his first Pro D2 game for Bayonne saw a try assist and try. He is already a hit at the club and it is not just for his on field skills but what he brings the team and fans off it.
Born in the small coastal town of Strand, just outside Cape Town he started his pro career at the Golden Lions before a short stint at the Falcons. From there he made a name for himself at the Pumas and then the Cheetahs before his Springbok debut in 2016.
