Springbok Player Ratings – RSAvAUS 2021

Us Bok fans had a bitter pill to swallow on Sunday as we watched Australia play and kick their way to victory. Bitter sweet too as Quade Cooper made his return and was at the center of the South African’s demise. I say this because the general feeling out there is that the Wallabies needed a stable 10 in order to settle but also because I get the feeling we all quite like what QC brings to the party. Pity it was against us though.

Here are all our player ratings for the Springboks

Not his best performance but a good one nonetheless. Made 12 tackles and scrummed well

RugbyBits Rating 6.5

Better performance but not vintage Mbonambi. Better line outs and great on defence

RugbyBits Rating 5.75

Penalised in a crucial scrum which shifted momentum but did ok in the tight aspects of the game

RugbyBits Rating 5.62

Not a great day at the office, slightly off the pace and overshadowed by opposition locks

RugbyBits Rating 5.12

The stand out player for the Boks. Huge on defence but unusually a few missed tackles

RugbyBits Rating 6.75

Moment of madness to get carded, not his best showing but Springboks lacked leadership towards the end when he was off

RugbyBits Rating 5

Busy but not as good as previous games and didnt impact the game as he has in the past. Top tackle count as usual

RugbyBits Rating 6

Rusty and marginally off the pace, good carries and a turnover

RugbyBits Rating 6.37

Kicks were decent but missed two vital tackles, one resulting in a try and one where Willemse put in a try saving tackle to save de Klerk and Boks

RugbyBits Rating 4.62

Worst game he has had for Boks, missed kicks at goal and progressively worse kicking from hand, add some poor passes along the way

RugbyBits Rating 3

Did well with what he had, always hungry. Couldn’t compete well in the air due to good Wallaby ‘game plan’.

RugbyBits Rating 5.5

Just 5 touches is an issue but mostly not his fault. Kerevi most certainly is 1 up after last week.

RugbyBits Rating 5.37

Solid on defence as usual but that was it as he made two stand out errors which likely would have resulted in 10-14 points for the Boks

RugbyBits Rating 4.75

Missed a few first time tackles but hunted for work. Struggled to compete and had few touches

RugbyBits Rating 4.87

Poor yellow card and got poor service but also struggled the longer the game went on.

RugbyBits Rating 4.12

Bomb Squad

7.75 Malcolm Marx – Two tries and fixed his line out issues, great showing off the bench

6.12 Ox Ntche – Deserved more credit from officials at the scrum. Big hits on defence too

6.5 Vincent Koch – Solid at scrum time and around the park

4.75 Marco van Staden – Busy but not the impact he was there for

5.87 Kwagga Smith – Great and important turnover, valuable member of the squad

5.87 Jasper Wiese – Good carries and got involved

N/A Herschel Jantjies – Not enough time to rate but got bossed around at scrum time

6 Damian Willemse – 1 missed kick but other than that did what was required. WHAT A HIT!
