Ulster outlasted the Glasgow Warriors 35-29 in the opening round of the United Rugby Championship. Ulster got off to the perfect start, with a penalty try just three minutes in with Glasgow picking up a yellow card. The Warriors got on the board with a try 15 minutesĀ in, but a second Ulster score followed to put them up 14-5. Glasgow slotted a penalty shortly after and scored their second try with the final play of the first half to take a slender 15-14 lead into the break. Two early second half tries for Ulster saw them race into a 28-15 lead with around half an hour remaining. The Warriors got themselves back into the match with a penalty try after 54 minutes, with Ulster receiving a yellow card to go down to 14 players. Despite their numerical disadvantage, an Ulster score on the hour mark saw them regain control, up 35-22. Five minutes later, the deficit was reduced back to six points after a Glasgow try. A tense final 15 minutes followed, with the Warriors piling on relentless pressure in the closing stages, but the Ulster defence stood firm to see the hosts hold on for the victory.
